Yorktown Preservation Society (YPS) is a non-profit organization founded in May, 2013. We were officially incorporated by the Commonwealth of Virginia on May 31, 2013. On August 23, 2013 the organization applied for not-for-profit status and has received recognition as a 501(c)(3) charitable organization and as such contributions and donations made to YPS are tax deductible. We were founded as a result of organizational changes to the Association for the Preservation of Virginia Antiquities (APVA)/Preservation Virginia (PV). Originally, the APVA/PV was comprised of the Headquarters, operating in Richmond, Virginia and Branches throughout the Commonwealth. One of the several branches was the Yorktown Branch founded in 1921. Part of the APVA/PV organizational changes resulted in the dissolution of all Branches. The Yorktown Branch was dissolved May 22, 2013. The existing Board of Directors of the Yorktown Branch continued the activities of the Branch under the independent organization, Yorktown Preservation Society.
The mission of Yorktown Preservation Society is to promote interest and participation in activities associated with the historic village of Yorktown, Virginia with emphasis on preservation, conservation, restoration, and maintenance of the historic aspects of this unique community. The sole sources of revenue to continue the mission of YPS come from donations and support by the membership through participation in fund raisers conducted throughout the year.
