THE S. FRANKLIN EDWARDS AWARD
The S. Franklin Edwards Award was established in 2016 by the Yorktown Preservation Society as a tribute to Frank Edwards for his many years of work promoting and preserving the history of York County, Virginia, through the Yorktown Branch of the Association for the Preservation of Virginia Antiquities (APVA) and his oversight in transitioning the preservation efforts following the dissolution of the Yorktown Branch of the APVA and the establishment of the Yorktown Preservation Society. Henry Gammage was the driving force behind the creation of the award.
The award is to be presented to individuals or organizations who have demonstrated the same sort of commitment to the promotion and preservation of York County history as exhibited by Frank Edwards.
Nominations of candidates for the award will be presented to and reviewed by the Board of the Yorktown Preservation Society. Approval of the candidate will require a majority vote of the Board.
Submitted nomination forms will be maintained in a file by the Recording Secretary and will be considered for approval periodically by the Board.
RULES FOR MAKING A NOMINATION FOR THE AWARD
Only current members of the Yorktown Preservation Society may make a nomination.
Nominees may be living or deceased.
The nomination will be submitted on a form available from the YPS Board. The submitted form will include the reasons the nominee is deserving of the award.
PRESENTATION OF THE AWARD
Details of the presentation of the award are flexible, although ideally it will be presented at a regular meeting of the York County Board of Supervisors, with the perpetual award plaque on display.
